This styled shoot came together after photographer Katy Kahala reached out with a vision I couldn’t stop thinking about: a 1950s-inspired engagement shoot that brought a high-end bar experience into an unexpected setting. The goal was timeless, playful, and chic, with just enough organized chaos to keep things interesting.
Set at a Boise Mid-Century Home, the design leaned into contrast from the start. Leather textures, vintage furniture, and clean architectural lines set the foundation, while florals and fruit brought in color, movement, and a little flash. The inspiration called for bold pops of orange and citrus tones layered directly into the floral designs to add texture and energy. Fruit wasn’t an accessory here; it was part of the composition, working alongside sculptural blooms to create something expressive and a little unexpected.
The florals were loose and intentional, fun and funky. Just enough structure to feel elevated with room for personality to shine through. Paired with cocktails from Idaho Tipsy Trailers and rentals from Linen + Loot, the whole scene felt social, relaxed, and rooted in celebration.
What made this night especially fun was getting to meet and watch Zach + Derrick throughout the shoot. They stepped into this styled session to celebrate ten years of love, and their connection was impossible to miss. Even with a clear theme and strong visual direction, the focus always came back to them—their ease with each other, their confidence, and the joy they brought to every moment. It was playful, genuine, and full of life, which is exactly what great design should hold space for.
Working on projects like this- with a clear vision, thoughtful collaborators, and room to have fun- is always a reminder of why I love what I do.
